Philips AD4000M Full range drivers!

Last weekend I found AD4000M full range drivers. They were left alone at the old,small studio room. All of them is working, untouched. Made a short investigation, they are 10" drivers with whizzer cone. Magnets are AlNiCo, made around ~1960's. They are part of the Philips Crown series. Other than that, there is no information.

Anyone knows anything about these full rangers? I always wanted open baffle project to deal with, is these drivers worth the effort?

Those types of Philps divers are very popular with European collectors of full range speaker drivers. The heavy alnico magnets make them even more desirable.

These would make an excellent match for an open baffle project and should be best be driven with a tube amplifier. Solid state amps and whizzer cone drivers are not always a good match to say the least! (lol)

Wired naked to Luxman R1500. These Philips drivers had strange sound that I never heard before.. Time to build a baffle (or a box?)!

Stickman, thanks for the info. Sadly I don't have any tube amp.. Yet
Open baffle project was rejected (waf issues!). I will build a box for them..

There is two different box design drawings in Philips guide; closed box (A2) and ported box (B2)...

Finally finished this project. Cabinets are 136 liter, made from real wood. Fully stuffed with glass wool. Driving with Sansui 661 right now. Sound is smooth and detailed. Very warm.

I'm really happy with them, honestly I expected poor and tiresome sound. Results are trully opposite :thmbsp:
