Philips CD-60

Since yesterday I'm the proud owner of a mint Philips CD-60. It looks like it's barely been used. Bought at Goodwill for $15. Crazy right?

I opened it up and the inside looks as pristine as the outside. This is also the fastest reading CD-player I've ever seen! And it sounds buttery smooth. I now understand what the hype about the TDA1541A is all about. This is a keeper for sure!

I have some questions:

1) Since I anticipate this to be my main CD-player for a long time I'd love to have a remote with it. I understand this is the same player as the Marantz branded CD-60? Can I just use remotes from eBay that are sold as "for the Marantz CD-60"?

2) I heard people do all kinds of mods on this player. Are these worth it? Hard to do? I'm not very experienced with a soldering iron.

Anything else I should know about this player?

I picked one of these up this summer as well, back in the CD game. I'm really enjoying it so far, and you are right, its a very fast loader. I don't have anything else to add, but i'm happy with the purchase.
 
Takes about three seconds from drawer closing to track display appearing. Is that 'blistering'?

On closer inspection of the display, yours has some additional fields at either side, and a second filed next to the 'track display'. Same basics, and colour, though...

Mine takes 1.5 seconds. I just timed it. It's the fastest I've ever seen on a CD player.
 
So far I tried a Magnavox and an actual Philips DVD remote from Goodwill. They must have changed it over time because these are both not working with my player.

The controls have to be for a CD player; see the 'system number allocations' in the Wiki entry.

System number is supposed to stop your DVD RC-5 remote from controlling your CD player, and vice versa. Essentially, it's a form of address.

Any Philips, Magnavox and most Marantz CD (Marantz USA players from the eighties possibly won't work) remotes will work (so that one also).
Globally the Marantz brand was owned by Philips but in the eighties Marantz USA was still independent. The forementioned Marantz CD-60 is a global/Philips player.
