Philips GA 212 Spindle Removal

I picked up this Philips GA 212 turntable a month or ago and am starting to clean it up. There is a fair amount of belt goo I'd like to clean up but the spindle is often in the way. I'd like to remove it but I'm stumped as to how to do so. On the inside (see pic attached) there is a small plastic housing in which I assume the spindle's axle slots into. I've tried removing the two screws but it seems rather fixed in place. The last thing I'd like to do is force it. Any help or advice is always welcome.

I worked on many 212/312 tables, and don’t recall any way that the subframe could be held down with any screws?
You should be able to carefully left the subframe and tap the spindle with a small hammer to help move it past what may be a ring of hardened grease, preventing you from lifting it? Protect the spindle where you tap it or use a rubber mallet.

Once remove, cleaned and regreased it should spin freely and easily, then the belt takes over.
Also check www.vinylengine.com for a service manual, in case I forgot what I used to do when servicing these!
 
Turns out there's a small E-Clip keeping the spindle in place. What a pain to remove. Finally got it out.

Any advice CT for lubing the spindle for when it's time to install it again? This is my first time in a belt-driven TT as all of my other ones have been direct drives. Lately I've been using Super Lube and try to stay away from oil whenever possible.
 
I just serviced my 312 that I bought new back in the late 1970s.
Mine had a rotational scraping sound, that was audible between tracks.
The spindle was a bit scored and probably ran dry for many years.
I just cleaned it all up, fairly certain that I used synthetic light weight oil
and then thought that it might rattle due to slop, so I then put a very light
coat of Super Lube. I'm not an expert with turntables so YMMV.
I asked here what to use to lube it, note that one person says that the 212 and 312
