I downloaded a service link from a previous post, but it didn't show me what I needed to know, to replace both of the old RCA cables, on the Philips GA-406, fully automatic TT. I traced 4 wires underneath--coming from the TA--a red, green, yellow, and white. Continuity checks revealed that the red soldered connection goes to the center 'pin' of the R. RCA lead; while the grounded collar goes to the green. The L. side shows a connection from the white wire to the 'pin', while the yellow (instead of BLUE??) goes to the grounded collar. If that was all there was, I'd be OK; and I'd just solder on a new cable, at those 4 points.
However, there is a pink wire tied onto the red solder point--and it goes somewhere else. (?) And a continuity check between this 'pink' terminal point, and the GREEN terminal point shows "0" ohms--a direct connection between 'hot' and 'gnd'. Is this why my R. channel is so much weaker than my L. channel? it's got me stumped--what am I missing here? I need to hear from anyone who's replaced the RCA cables on this table! Thanks, for any insight anyone can throw my way....I don't want to un-solder the old cables, until I know where my NEW wires are supposed to go.
