It's possible that's leakage from the capacitors, but I haven't seen that happen on my M25 or any others that I've seen photos of. That's also a really hard area to clean without disassembling everything. If that amp was once in a really dirty environment, there may still be some residue in those crevices next to the main caps.
 
Thanks! It's possible a leaking cap was already replaced but the buyer should discuss that with the seller. Alas this is said to be an estate item so that information may be lost. Beautiful design! I remember the Series 20 ads that said: "It takes guts to be more expensive than McIntosh."
 
Yes, it's beautiful equipment! My guess is that we're just seeing some dirt there. And those capacitors are unlikely to have been replaced, largely because they are custom jobs made by Pioneer.
