Phono Pre-amps

Getting close to pulling the trigger on a NAD 356BEE. Adding the internal PP375 phono pre-amp is an option. I already have a NAD PP2. Anyone got any experience with these? Is the internal an upgrade or mostly the same?

No complaints with the PP2 now.

I don't have any experience with them, but can tell you that some specifications (particularly noise) for the PP2 are better than the PP375, while the RIAA accuracy is slightly better for the PP375. Here’s a list of some of the specifications that differ:

Signal to noise ratio, IHF A-weighted (larger numbers better)
MC: PP375 76dB, PP2 78dB
MM: PP375 77dB, PP2 80dB
RIAA accuracy
PP375 ±0.25dB, PP2 ±0.3dB (you probably won't notice this!)

So it’s not really worth getting the internal PP375 - the PP2 will do the job, in some cases better than the PP375. Save yourself some money (I'm sure your hi-fi dealer will be annoyed with me:D).

Got a reply from NAD, if anyone is interested.

"PP2 vs PP375
I am thinking of replacing my inoperative C372 with a C356BEE. I already own a PP2. Is there any performance improvement with the internal vs external phono pre-amp?

re: PP2 vs PP375
Thank you for contacting the NAD Electronics Support Centre.
The PP2 and PP375 will audibly sound the same.
PP2 is external and PP375 is internal and that is the difference.
I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Pam
