phono preamp vs vintage receiver

I have a Musical Fidelity V-LPS that I really like. They're closing them out, so you can pick one up for $99. :thmbsp: :music:
 
I have been leaning towards a diy phono preamp kit. I have an updated parts list for the Bugle Preamp...

...Then today I check local Craigslist and find a Rega Fono Mini for about $75. Is this a great deal on a great phono preamp?

Also, I just did a bit of reading on Rega's website and Rega Fono Mini is only for MM. I'm assuming that's what I have, but how do I know for sure?

It sounds more like a decent deal on a decent phono preamp. What kind of cartridge do you have?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it is a Audio Technica LAB 12-S (XII-S) "Ivory".

I recently purchased this Sony PS-X6 and It came with brochures, among them was this pamphlet for Audio Technica and the picture in the pamphlet looks like the one on the tone arm.

So then your phono inputs or phono preamp will need to be the type designed for MM.

I also use an Adcom preamp for my phono stage (specifically the Adcom gfp-555). Although it is has both MM and MC settings, I can't help but wonder how a stand-alone phono preamp would measure up. I have been looking at the Rega Fono, but have no way of listening to it. Do you guys think it would be a considerable upgrade to my Adcom's internal phono stage??
