Sorry to ask this, as I'm sure this has been asked thousands of times before, but I'm looking to upgrade the phono stage in my Sansui 8080DB receiver. I'd like to stay under $300 (preferably under $200) and I've so far narrowed it down to two: the Musical Fidelity V-LPS Mk II or the Audio Cambridge 640P. I've read a lot about the HypnoToad upgrade to the 640P and was wondering if it was worth getting and later updating it per HypnoToad's instructions or if the Musical Fidelity was better even after the 640P mods. It seems most people prefer the Musical Fidelity over the un-modded 640P. The threads I was looking at were a couple years old, so are there any newer phono stages out there that would be better?

Appreciate any input.

Thanks.

I've got the MF-VLPS MkI with the MF-PSU MkII and ran it against the Hypno-modded 640P... I thought the MF setup had more depth than the modded 640P... think you can still find the PSU for around $129 and would recommend it over the wall wart that comes with the VLPS... I was running a Pyramid power supply prior to the MF-PSU and the MF-PSU renders better sound.

Adding the Pangea P100 power supply to my Hynotoad 640P brought to yet another level. I had to spend a lot more money to put the 640P aside.
