Phono Quieter after ADC Equalizer Connection

I recently acquired an ADC Sound Shaper Two MKII to help correct the sound in my listening space for use with my TT set-up.

My amplifier is a Kenwood Basic M1 and my preamp is the matching Kenwood Basic C1. I have the equalizer directly connected from its input and output to the tape in/out on the C1 preamp.

On my preamp with both the phono stage, and the tape stage selected to on, while the record is playing the volume is CONSIDERABLY louder when my equalizer (set to neutral) is bypassed than it is when the equalizer bypass is deselected.

I’ve tried adjusting the slides for different frequency bands on the equalizer and although there is noticable improvements in sound quality it’s too quiet for enjoyment and zero impact on sound.

I’ve tried using the “tape 2” inputs and the result is the same, unsure what to do here....

I’ve heard about differences in sound but with the equalizer selected changes on my amp’s volume knob aren’t even noticeable.

Other than ditch the EQ, any ideas??

Does it do the same thing with a source other than phono? Maybe try a CD player or DAC?

Sorry forgot to mention that, unfortunately yes, it also does the same thing when the CD source is selected.

Sounds like something is wrong with the equalizer.

You could try putting it between you pre-amp and power amp, to make sure the problem isn't with your tape loop.

This is embarrassing, too many beer’s for breakfast... I had the input from the EQ going to the tape input and the EQ output going to the tape output.
