I'm with you. Both caps were probably from the cathodes to ground. But with the split feedback resistors I don't know the affect on the frequency response.

OK guys thanks again for sharing your knowledge on this I really apprieciate it, I won't try and pretend that I can follow all the details but I did learn a thing or two for sure. I am quite happy with the final out come here so I will leave it at that as far as the recap goes. Grainger you mentioned in your first reply that this is a single stage magnetic setup (unseen before) with no RIAA. My next step is to change out the ceramic cartridge on the table with a MM and install a "boxed" RIAA preamp for this input stage. I am hoping that this will not lead to other issues with this input stage? Cheers
That should work fine as long as you don't overload the phono stage. But if it does use an AUX input.
Had the same problem with my MX110. After a recap, the same exact thing happened to me. After hours of checking and re-checking the circuit and all the solders, even retesting the caps, I found out the problem was the coming from the tape monitor switch not making good contact just on one side. Try turning the switches on and off and as Larry suggested, clean them good. In my case, cleaning didn't help, the switches need replacement but I can't find the direct drop in for the unit.
