Picked this up on a CL tour to other parts of the state

Saw a set of KLH 17's in poor condition cheap a couple of hours away. Decided to make a day of it and searched and found a set of OLA's. Managed to score both.

The 17's with excellent original green grills with badges, but the cabinets need some serious help and the tweeters aren't original. Scored them for $20 after negotiating them down from $30. I'll be refurbishing them in the next couple of months.

Picked up the Original Large Advents in the same area for $75 (full asking price). One needs a new surround. The cabinets are about 8 out of 10. Missing the badges. Probably need to be recapped. I didn't negotiate on them. They came from the original owner and the paper labels on the back are still perfect. Keepers but not perfect.....

So the guy that sold me the OLA's was fun to talk to. I got the history on the ownership and he mentioned that he's had to replace the surrounds about every 4 years! What's with that? Is the foam stuffing in the box off-gassing and causing them to decompose or are the aftermarket surrounds just that bad?

Just ordered the badges from the big auction site. (Thanks again Kent!)

BTW, I'll get some pics and post them.

Anyone have any recommendations for cap brands? I've been using Dayton's and having good luck, but I'd like to mix it up a bit and just try something different.

I had two pair of OLAs bought in early 1974. They required new foam every 20 years or so. Perhaps he was re foaming his with masking tape.

Fun road trip and scored some nice speakers!
Green grills on the Seventeens? Hope that's not mold! Definately not the original color grills.
Looking forward to the pics.
