Picked up 25 drivers today, some interesting stuff...

Went to go get two 12" Utah woofers in mint condition for $10/pr and ended up with this pile-o-stuff!!!! :yes: The guy had a pile of speakers from his dads estate and made me take a bunch of them. :worried: I left more than this behind but mostly crappy car stuff.

here is the list:

(2) Vintage Monkywards three ways, look kinda nice
(2) Utah 12" woofers, perfect
(2) Magnavox mid horns
(2) Utah (?) HF horns
(2) Trusonic XO's, big
(2) huge Yamaha drivers that are way funky and cool, look like new
(6) Full range ratshak looking drivers, new in boxes
(2) odd speakers with various drivers, one is a cool full range (Coax?) Utah Celesta, one is a Trusonic 8"

$20. Crazy huh. :banana:

I have to do something with those huge and funky Yamaha drivers. :naughty: They supposedly came out of a top of the line Yamaha organ and are new as the organ was dropped and damaged. No surrounds, I guess the flat area sides just flex. Cone does not move easy and the CV look big.

Those Yamaha speakers are pretty high-Q I think and were designed to work on open baffles (well, backless enclosures -- like an organ!). They were used in hi-fi speakers too. I always wanted to see/hear one in the flesh.
 
Those crazy Yamahas were OEM'd in (believe it or not) a Fender bass amp.

Now you're gonna make me go downstairs and get my Fender amp books...

...Okay, now I'm back. That is for the Fender Bantam Bass amp, build dates 1969-71 (or 1970-72, from a different source book).

I would offer those up on some of the vintage guitar boards as a super-rare OEM replacement for the Bantam (which is exactly what it is). I don't know what it's worth, but somewhere out there, at least one person is looking to restore an old Bantam.
 
I like the Monkeywards speakers... you're right, they look nice...

Let's get some close ups of those beauties! :thmbsp:

If anyone (Gordon?) knows what enclosure these (the Yamaha's) would work in for HiFi and the dynamic range that would be spectacular. :thmbsp:

Nice info man :thmbsp: I think I will hold onto them unless there worth like a billion dollars or something :D

This specific unit was supposed to be out of an organ. I hooked one up and it has a nice full range sound. I set it in a cutout cardboard box (very scientific) and it sounded really good. Has anyone built a Hifi speaker with an open baffle? Would that work OK or no. I guess anything is possible. :scratch2:
 
Here are the Monkeywards speakers. I hooked them up and they sound pretty darn good. A little bright but good. They look like new. I wonder who made these for them? :scratch2:
 
I used a lot of those Celestra's in the 70's when I was building speakers.Duel cone if I remember correct.I used a horn for the high end.

Looks like you're raising her well. Sure does bring back memories of me being about that age in a similar situation with some radios spread out on the table instead. It was a gift of a moment that I still remember fondly of sharing with my father. Good for you for letting her create her own moment of memory.

Now, are you planning on incorporating all these drivers into one monster DIY project? That'd be something to see. Those Yamahas sure are interesting looking beasts, I and surely others would like to hear a report in the future on their sound.

Well if I had any idea what size and type of enclosure to use I would be all over it. I also need to know what frequency range this is intended for. I'm thinking bass / mid type of thing. Running full range it actually produces a wide spectrum and sounds pretty good doing it. 50-6000 is my wild ass guess for what I should use it for. I can find no info on the net so far. :scratch2:

I keep looking at that in the other post and LMAO. BUT, I would have thrown a trapezoidal and a square speaker in there as well. And why not huck a few on the sides and top also? Goofy. Wonder what the 2 L-pads adjust? That has to be a sonic nightmare. I like a good three way (speakers too). :D
 
You're kid sure does look ready to build something! Interesting stuff. Let me know if you want to get rid of a couple of the rat-shak full rangers.
