Picked Up: Fisher Futura F-59 & Fisher E-491

Haven't been here in a while.

Over the past 3 weeks I picked up 2 Fisher consoles.

One was a 1966 Fisher E-491 Custom Electra. Very bad condition. Was stored in a damp outdoor garage. Mouse droppings and moisture damage. Original owner.

The other was a 1964 Fisher F-59 Futura V. Not bad condition. Was inside a home. From the original owner.

Both came from New Jersey. I live in New York.

Sorry for the quality of the photographs. Photos taken outside when I was moving them. I had to store both in vertical positions.

Glad to see a couple more have been saved... apparently just in the nick of time!

Hopefully they'll clean up nicely!

The E-491 was going to be placed in a dumpster by its owner. Unfortunately, the cabinet has too much water damage to be saved. The Futura has possibilities but people shy away from the hybrid amplifier.

Nothing wrong with the Hybrid Amp, that a little TLC won't hurt. Mine have been running since 2009 without faults. Nice to see more of them getting saved and used.

jonboy55, glad to see you back. And I own the same model of Custom Electra as you got, mine's in nice condition, and working. I am playing it right now. Thanks so much for all you do on all things Fisher.

I bet someone could have the water damaged console wood restored for $150-300 depending on where one is located. Unless there is significant rot or structural damage, from the little I could see in the photos it doesn't look that bad.

Although slightly smaller, I received a $200 quote to professionally refinish our Philharmonic's cabinet.

Even if the veneer is lifting, it isn't tough for someone with the right equipment & materials on-hand to refinish it if all of the electronics and hardware is removed ahead of time.

...maybe something to consider before tossing out the cabinet :dunno:
