Picked up old speakers with Jensen drivers-- need info!

Hey guys,

I picked up a pair of beautiful speakers that probably date to the late 60s/early 70s. Haven't had the chance to listen to them yet but popping the back off one revealed Jensen drivers. Anyway, I can't seem to find anything about them online.

The driver on the horn is a Jensen Model MH-6 and the LF driver is SG-120 Sigma Series. Anyone here have any experience or info about these?

Well, I hooked them up this morning and was disappointed to find that the woofer in one of the speakers wasn't working. I opened the back and bypassed the crossover by plugging the woofer straight in to the amp. Without the HF driver going, I can hear that it does produce sound but is very, very faint. After pulling it from the cabinet, I noticed pressing down on diaphragm brings the output up higher to the expected level. I was surprised at how high it extended-- I think it might be a full range driver.

Any ideas? Should I even bother with these drivers or just chuck 'em? The other speaker works just fine and the cabinets they came in are beautiful.

wow!! those are quite the lookers.. its a toss up between megan fox and those..
well i know what i would take home.. just because a woofer is damaged though. haha.... attempt a repair!!

i just noticed.. the horn is 30watts.. yet the woofer is 20watts.. is that normal? i find that supprising
also is there seperate inputs for each driver? why is there 3 wires running out to the back?

I was just thinking about this - my Kanazawa KS-54H drivers are all over the place, including a 2W cone tweeter in series with a 20W horn driver! I'm not sure what was going on then, or if the designers were (to a large degree) guessing.
 
The Jensens should be quite efficient and neither require nor need tolerate much power. The tweeter will, under anything like normal circumstances, see only a fraction of the power that the woofer will, anyway.

The "woofer" driver is in fact a twin-cone "extended range" driver, which probably has useable response up to 10 or 12 kHz.

Any thoughts on how to get it singing again? It works out of the cab if I slightly push down on it but otherwise the output is way too low.
 
Is the spider detached? It sounds like the voice coil is coming too far out of the gap. You might want to look for a professional speaker repair shop.

+1 i wouldent cut and glue on a driver like that..
but if it is just a corner of the spider or something like that. maybe..
 
Look at it this way-

You will NEVER have to replace a foam surround. Those are well made drivers built for quality, not engineered obsolescence. A pro repair is probably worth it.

I've found that the Triax models from the Jensen Sigma line are highly regarded, but can't find anything specifically about the lowly SG-120 I have, which is troublesome. I'm concerned about having a costly repair done on it, then finding out later that it was one of the bottom-of-the-line drivers in their lineup.

How much does that type of repair run for anyway?
