Pics of your listening space

My new setup. Very challenging space in terms of stereo imaging, but I think I got it -- it sounds great now. The AR speakers work just as stands (waiting to be refoamed, after I'll do the small advents) for my newly refoamed newAdvents.

WOW! I love the way your set up looks!! i wish my new apt had wooden floors and the space like my last apt did.

these are pics of my old place just over 3 years ago. System has changed a little and split up into 2 seperate rooms.

Thanks, Peter_Klim! Wooden floor is a must for me -- neither I or my wife can't stand vacuuming carpets, though it's for sure better acoustically, and also pleasant for the feet. I see you have lot's of interesting Hifi stuff, looks like you are a professional musician?

Hi AndreiR,
I WISH i was a professional musician! I've only bean playing about 4 years, self taught, have a lllllllllllong way to go still. The mic is just for recording me talking, saying things like: "OK, now the date is Dec 15th, let's hear had much i still suck!" LOL!

Yep, carpetting sure does deaden the sound in a good way. I plan on adding acoustic treatment to my new apartment soon. i created some thread asking about it last week. Is that what you are using the drapes behind your speakers for, for absorption? Having the open space behind and inbetween your speakers should help with rear reflection. In your post you mention that your room was challenging to work out the stereo imaging - is that still an issue? Looks like it should be ok now,

I know, Peter, -- I play guitar (not professionally) for 35 years or so and still can't say I CAN :D It was always just doodling...

True, the purpose of those draperies is purely acoustical and I must say: they drastically improved the sound -- quick and cheap. They evened out the situation for both speakers -- as you can see: a solid wall behind the left and the opened space of the staircase behind the right speaker. So the left drapery softened the solid wall immediate reflection, and the right one provided backing for the right speaker. Another difficult part of this room is a big niche (can't see it in the picture) of the entrance hall just left of the left speaker. There is another big opening just right of the record shelf (I added the shelf recently and it also helped). All those asymmetrical openings make this space difficult for creating good stereo imaging. My left speaker always sounds a bit quieter, so I have to compensate with the balance on the preamp. The rug runner in the center of the room ( I am planning on getting a bigger rug for that area) also helped killing those annoying ringing highs.
I have to say that after all these little improvements, along with moving speakers here and there, and other tweaks, these last few days, finally I could truly enjoy listening to some music, that (sonically) irritated me great deal before. Among those are: Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Traffic etc.

Good luck with adding acoustic treatment to your new apartment!

I also love it, I would be able to get lost in that room investigating around for hours. Electronics, Bikes, Art, Antiques, Cool Lighting, and Guns.... all are items that make me happy to look at. I buy many of the same things as you.

Ok. I have to chime in here. That room is seriously awesome. I would never want to come out again if I didn't need food or to go to the bathroom.

I just can't understand how you manage to keep it so neat and clean!
Must be the lighting that softens the look of everything.
The pics of my stuff was taken with a flash and although truthful, really brought out the worst ...

... but then again, I'm too old and with restricted mobility, and I just don't care anymore. :sigh:
My cats don't care anymore either. :D
It all still sounds good tho'. :thmbsp:

your space is hella cool , what's the torch for ?

It's a old gasoline blow torch, with a vintage solder iron on top.

When I first bought it, my plan was to use it to restore a old deck off the room in this pic, and above the garage. But upon a investigation, I determined it was too dangerous to use. So it just sits on display for now.

The fan blade is kind of weird too, but that's the fan from my first car. A dart swinger, it's the only thing I got left from that car, other than pictures...... So naturally I had to hang it up on my living room wall.

Very neat room...was the swinger a straight 6?...or does the fan just look small compared to the flat-screen:scratch2:. Nice speakers:yes:.

No my old swinger was a 8, and I don't know the story about the propeller, But my grandfather once owned several corner bars in chicago, his largest was called "The Beacon" In this bar he gave away free shrimp to attract a crowd.

The propeller came from my grandfather. So it may have been a bar decor item at some point. I picked it up about 20 years ago, when he downsized. and never asked the story behind it.

Here is a photo from another of the bars, it looks like it was good times back then. Look how classy everyone dressed back then, compared to today.

You're very lucky to have it.
I've been looking for one for years, (and I don't know why.) :sigh:
Cheers. :thmbsp:

I'm a history orientated person, and collect many things from the past, that normal people would not look twice at. Here is an example.

This was found in the woods of sag quarry, in Palos IL. Most people would walk over it, or toss it. I cleaned it, and it's now on display in my living room. I still wan't to know the story behind this item, but never will. I could only imagine.
