Picture database on AK

Wouldn't it be cool if we had a searchable picture database on AK? Kind of like Google images but just shots of speakers. With different variations of models and crossover components I find I am always searching AK, Ebay, google images, etc. to see what different models look like etc.

I would volunteer to manage it if need be and have good photo editing skills as well as web authoring skills. We could have a submit form with make / model numbers etc that you submit and they go to an administrator whom gets them in the sudo database for all to access.

What do you think?

Actually, I would like something much more advanced, detailed, and convenient than the current AK gallery and quite like your suggestion. Any idea of what kind of internet software/support might be available to make it happen?

I was afraid that might happen as I don't poke my head out of the speaker forum much. :sadwave: :withstpd:
 
Well, there are limitations to the gallery. There is no organization beyond the too broad category of "Speaker" and who posted what. Picture sizes are greatly restricted and there's no way to keep related pictures, such as grills on/off and crossover pics to full baffle shots, etc, together. Of equal import to making a more useful image database is that each poster is limited to just 1.5megs of space. So, no matter how many good pictures you may have to contribute, there is a tiny limit.

So, any ideas on what to use as an upgrade?

All you have to do is whine a little - all limits have been turned off.

Originally the gallery was setup such that New registered Users were limited and Full Registered User had no limits.

Charivari, you only have a little over 300K in the gallery. While others have as much as 13 megs.
 
I like the idea. I use the technics-marantz-pioneer site that has lists of components that link to the page with the information. Something like that would be very nice. An opportunity to see the list of all the speakers represented allowing browsing or searching as need be. Here is the page for Marantz equipment as an example. The database is the bottom half of the page.

I will be more than happy for you to take on the task of building the database, PHP structure and maintaining it. Just let me know when you want to upload the mySQL and files, I will give you access to the server at that point or can upload for you.
 
If someone does take on this task, I can take pic's of my 30 some speaker pairs. (paired down lately)

Well, the little counter told me how much space I had available. So, I was rationing my space, picking and choosing which pictures to upload, so I'd still have the extra bit when needed. This is pretty much why I didn't post any pictures before this weekend, saving the space for something good. I simply didn't push the limits, but finally figured I might as well put up something so I did.

So, whining does accomplish something around here? Alright! Now I just have to figure out something good to whine, complain, and stomp my feet about. (Yes, I am often sarcastic, too.)

Would be nice to have a better means for organization and image association as well as someone to maintain, organize, and regulate it, such as kfa888 was volunteering for.

What he was suggesting would never integrate with VB or photo post. The only way would be to start a complete new site with the proper software.
