picture discs?

I'm making a batch order from an ebay store called aural exploits, due to a cash graduation gift.

I'd like to pick up Wish You Were Here on vinyl because I like my 30th anniversary DSOTM even better than my MFSL Gold CD DSOTM. However the only Wish You Were Here the seller has is a picture disc. This makes me suspicious. Do picture discs sound good?

By the way, feel free to browse the store and recommend me some unmissable albums. Surprise me.

The best copy of "Wish You Were Here" that I have heard is the CBS 1/2 spd master. I am told the Japanese pressing are very good as well.

I have no experience with picture disks and doubt I would consider one for a lot of play time.

Picture discs are to steer clear of if you are looking for sound quality. The picture puts noise on the material. I have quite a few of these that I purchased new for the picture and not the music, they have more noise than the same on regular vinyl.

I've got one Picture Disc, and the sound is much noisier then a regular Disc(actually it sucks is the only way to describe it). It was the only Picture Disc I ever bought, and I'll probably will never buy another because of the sound quality. There was no comparison to it and even a scratchy 45

I don't think they were really intended for play. More as novelty art than anything else. The picture is printed on paper product that lies below the surface of clear vinyl. The record companies at that point were trying everything to boost sales, including colored vinyl.

I've got the DSOTM on picture disc, noisey stuff...
maybe some are good, but this isn't one of them, quiet recording and lots and lots and lots of noise, I much rather play the cd then...

I have a few Pix discs, Elvis, Beatles, Stones, Heart etc.. They are nice as a novelty and it's nice to see them spinning on a turntable but if you are looking for sound quality.. FUHGEDDABOUTIT! Very noisy and it sounds like you are playing a cardboard. I have never heard one that sounded anywhere near a regular LP.

They are most of interest to collectors, not audiophiles. You can make clocks out of them. A Wish You Were Here clock would be cool if the album means a lot to you.

You can buy a good early original on eBay that will have great sound. I see that an original UK Harvest from a US seller recently sold for $27. That is the one I would look for.

Good US originals in NM seem to run $10-15, maybe higher for blue shrink/postcard coipies.
