Piioneer S-55T

I came across a set of these yesterday. They look nice and seem to be well built. I can not find very much information about these. Has anyone ever listened to this model. My previous experience with Pioneer speakers is limited to the CS-88A and CS-63DX. Does the "S" prefix have a particular meaning for their speakers?

Pioneer S-55T

Are they junk? I thought that most Japanese speakers from the late 80's were basically trash. These do look good, but I am not sure how this size speaker will handle bass response with two woofers and a tweeter in between them

it would appear to me these are a Japanese home market speaker. If you do an Image Search on Google for them all the links come up with a Japanese or Vietnamese web address.

And they appear to be c1982

I also see two different looking speakers that carry the S-55T model number on the photo's

it is possible they are a rare enough find in the US that you won't get much info. Easiest way to tell if they are any good is to play some music through them.

Thanks for the reply. It is mentioned in one of the Asian threads that the sound of these can be adjusted by adding sand bags. To me, it seems that there is a lot going on inside of these relatively small speakers.. I will have to decide on getting these without the opportunity to listen to them. The over-all build quality does inpress me, plus the stands are very heavy and nice looking..

I am impressed with these; They sound great.

they look like S-T100's on steroids. The woofers on the st100s are beefy but stamped metal. These have cast woofers. They are the st1oo upgrade. The st100's to me sounded fantastic. I would love to hear these.
