An AK member asked for this so I thought I'd post it for anyone else who might be interested. Not sure it belongs here but the moderator can move it to wherever.

It looks like the 4 ohm output taps are grounded. What's the deal there?

Also, am I correct in assuming that using the speaker selector switch while the amp is running could potentially generate a damaging flyback pulse and should be avoided?

My pilot has slightly different output ports. I will post pics once my camera is repaired. (probably a week or so) Thanks for posting the schematic!

If you switch speakers while driving it into clipping, you DESERVE an arc-over... assuming that they used a break-before-make switch anyway.

The 4 Ohm winding is the center-tap - grounding it makes both + and - polarities available, which allows a center channel or mono output by connecting the two channels in series. The EICO ST-series and some others used this connection.

Hahaha agreed. Well there is no warning or anything on the chassis, which I understand because it's old school equipment. Though I wonder how many failures they had due to end users not knowing the risk there.
