I am a first time user on Audiokarma and have just acquired a 1964 Pilot 402 stereo console in excellent cosmetic condition. So far I have not been able to find much documentation on this particular model. Has anyone on AK restored onn of these units or have a schematic? Any information is much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for replying so quickly. I did search for a Pilot 402, but mine is a later model than what I found posted on AK. The faceplate says 'Series 400' and there is a label on the back of the console that says Pilot 402. I can take some pictures and post them when I get home from work tonight. The person I bought it from says it is a 1964 model where the posts that I have seen in AK show one from the earlier 60's. Thanks.
Interesting. There was a later series Pilot 400 that was similar to the Pilot 500 shown here but this is a much different face-plate and, IIRC, uses ECL86/6GW8
This is basically what the faceplate on mine looks like. The selector knob itself is different and it says 'Series 400' but I believe that everything else is the same. I will take some pictures tonight and post them.Interesting. That is consistent then. The Selector knob on mine was missing so that is a functional replacement, not the original type.
The 400 tuner and amp are basically the same as in the 500, including the same PT (58-94) and OPTs (56-70). The main difference I see is in the speakers used in the console. The 400 had a small 5" Model 75 mid and a 12" Model 74 woofer vs. 6" Model 58 mid and 12" Model 76 woofer for the Series 500. I placed the Series 500 schematic on this site here. I had a similar Pilot a while back. Series 700. Hybrid tube and solid state, even though it says "Solid State" on the front plate,

Thanks for the schematic and the info. At first glance, from the chassis layout it looks to be the same. Unfortunately, it will be another couple of weeks before I will actually have time to start taking it apart. I am sure that I will have additional questions once I dig into it. I have worked on a few solid state stereos, but this is my first attempt with tube audio and I know that I will have a lot to learn. I have attached some pictures.
That's the one. Thanks for the photos. IIRC the speaker connection at the rear is a 5 or 6 pin connector, so will will probably want to change that to some decent binding posts while you are working the update
