Pilot 654 owner needs help

Hello AK'ers

Hi, I'm John and I am a Pilot addict lol

I have a lot of Pilot gear which I just really enjoy. Recently I bought a 654 and in transit the glass got broken into many pieces.

I am wondering if someone who has one of these can remove their knobs and faceplate and take a good photo with the camera fairly close and square to the glass take a picture of their glass. I would need 2 real good images. One with a ruler along the top of the glass and one without.

If you wanted to get real fancy and just remove the glass to take the picture that would be nice too. It is pretty easy to do on these old Pilots.

Once i have the images I can scale them in photoshop and have a glass made at a trophy shop here in Minneapolis

Thanks for the help!

John

I don't know if it will help but the Pilot 602 receiver has similar if not the same dial glass. Possible one of their tuner or tuner/pre models is also the same. Not the 590 though, I have one of those.

hmm I had thought about possible models that share some components but do not have the knowledge to know which one do the sharing. I will try to look at some brochures and perhaps years and models will make sense

thanks! if anyone else has ideas i am all ears :D

Shucks, I had some extra glass for the 6BQ5 receiver. Sorry man.

what model was your integrated ?

I would think if your was a 654 as mine is that the glass would be interchangeable perhaps. Since the glass is really only concerned with the am/fm section?

a fellow member "saltwater" thought he might have a spare one for me as well, and we even exchanged a couple PM's but that has been over 2 weeks and i have not heard from him or seen him on the boards at all. I hope he is doing ok and just got busy......

That glass sure looks to be the same for the 602 (6bq5) and the 654. Scales are both side by side, all the other pilots I've seen had one scale over the other.
If all else fails, measure the opening on the faceplate and see if it matches the 602's opening. I'm guessing they're the same.

OOps !!! thanks to you my friend!

I am thinking this will go in the shop next week.

I just happened upon a deal for another Pilot console and the guy had already taken the 210 and 232 out and did a bit of a hack job actually. But things turned out as he gave me the console as he had not tossed it yet and I got 2 extension cabs to go with it all Pilot and in decent shape and matching the console. This new console is tiny and has no tuner just the 210 and the 232 and a phono. I am going to mount a Lenco in the turntable area and call it a day.

thanks again Justin for your help and i am anxious to start in on the 654 :)

John

He should be taking care of gentleman. Let's hope he posts a update.

The 654 looks to be near-kin to the 246.

If it is the same amp/preamp-wise as the 246, but with an added tuner then you have a great sounding unit. Love my 246 and it is by far the best integrated I've ever had or heard (I've had several dozen different amps over the years). I put a few hundred bucks worth of replacement caps in it and it was well worth it. Makes my Von Schweikerts sing so enjoyably nice.

I almost bid on a 654 a few weeks ago on the bay, but decided not to. It went for a great price (if you're the buyer). Kinda kicking myself now for not bidding. Is that the one you got?

I have so much Pilot stuff it is hard to remember how I actually came by some of it. I think this piece was listed and did not sell because it did not have tubes and was a bit rough. I made an offer to the guy and I think i got it shipped to me for 160 bux. The tubes cost me 180 and I need to have it re-capped before i can know much about what it sounds like. I have a LOT of Pilot stuff and most of it is going to go on the sale block now that i have finally decide what i am going to keep and what i am going to sell.

I am glad to hear you got your rig sounding nice and that the Pilot stuff is part of it.

I have a pair of 210 pre-amps one paired with a Virtue One2 tripath amp and one with a 232 that I am about to re-cap

I am a bit of a addict lol, I have a 402 and a few tuners and a few pristine consoles lol

I'm kinda partial to the Pilot gear too. Besides the 246 intergrated I have a 232, 245, and a 602. I used to have a pair of AA-902s that used the 6V6s that I wish I had not sold.

Yes, Pilot gear is great sounding equipment and is hard to resist buying. I'm hooked on it as well.....
