Pilot console

ekmanning5

Time has told me...
Only one Estate Sale today. In the basement I spied two cabinets side-by-side with "Hi-Fidelity by Pilot" badges on them. I thought perhaps they were speakers but was pleasantly surprised to find a Pilot C-1075 (or 76, not sure which) console. Inside were the Sa-232 amp, sp-210 preamp, and the fa-540 tuner. Speakers from what I can see are Jensens. Now I have to figure out what to do next.

Oh Ed, I'm sure that you'll think of something or get a million opinions here :D

Check out some of ejfud's Pilot threads

There's some serious iron there.

Hi ek,

Ooooh, NICE score on your Pilot! I'm sure you'll have a blast with that find!
I too recently found a PILOT "High Fidelity". In my case, it was a
PT-1030D MONO Console. Mine has a ol' (if memory serves) Garrard Turntable and FOUR drivers...a 12" Woofer and...in a seperate sealed chamber...three other drivers. Of course, I think the prize in this Console
is the MONO PILOT AMP which has a single EZ81, two EL84's and
three 12AX7's. I will have the Amp rebuilt and then use with one of
my BIG single speakers. Not too shabby a find for twenty bucks!
Have fun with your PILOT!

Regards,
SixCats!

Well I've got her apart...here's a few more pics and one of my helper.

Wow, spectacular and nifty hifi historical footnote as well. The 232 is a terrific amplifier that will pound sand up the Dynaco ST-35. It is absolutely on par with the Fishers of the day also used in their high-end console offerings.

My friend, you got a terrific rig. It is yours to with what you want but let me be the first to plead, no beg, that you keep everything together and not gut it. Certainly, bring the 232 back to life and use it as you will in your own system but do keep the rest of of the console & extra speaker intact. Someday you will be glad you did if you decide to sell it off. Having an intact high-end console is pretty damn cool.

Not many of these around now either. Most have succumbed to scrapping for their parts. This was the highest-end solution you could get before jumping into component equipment. It was not an inexpensive path and the companies who made them, made them as serious audio gear. Fisher made similar offerings and I am still sore about missing out on one of theirs 15 years back.

Congrats!

A beauty Ed--serious iron there. What are the output tubes?

Did you find the Di-Lithium Crystals, per chance?

I think that your able assistant has the vintage-tube-audio-bug!

What is the driver layout in each cab and are they identical?

I am really surprised that the labels on the Jensens are intact and both Piloty grille badges present.

Amazing!

I opened them up just to get a look see. Beside the 12 inch Jensen there are three smaller drivers in an enclosed box. It was very difficult to access them so I can only guess as to their size. Probably two 4 inchers and a two incher. Again, I would have had to really tear the cab apart to get to them and I didn't want to do that.

Walker the tubes have been changed and other than brand names (Sylvania mostly) I can't tell what they are. I do know that they should be 4 EL84/6BQ5, 2 12AX7, and 1 12AU7.
I wasn't able to travel back to the 50's so I guess there are no Di-Lithium Crystals. Is that what you mean? :D

I also found an exact Pilot as your except mine has the white wash finish.
Great piece of equipment and built solidly. I tested mine and set it aside in a safe place, It is one you want to hang on to.
Congrats.
