I think that may be due to you not actually having a 45RPM record to try. I am just assuming that you don't have any 45's.

The record size is done by that little finger on the rear part of the deck. It will drop for a 12" record if thats what you have loaded. It will switch automatically between 7, 10, and 12" records.

Looks like a 1968 model, channel imbalance is most likely the small electrolytics in the receiver.
The 45 adaptor shown is not the correct one for the Garrard changer.

No real solution on getting the imbalance corrected then if what you say turns out to be true huh? There's like 30-50 of those guys in one of these, no? I wouldn't mind soldering a thing or two but woof!

There a way to test caps on board? Or do they have to be removed to be checked?
I greatly prefer to diagnose and fix things before doing a full re-cap. Changing a pile of parts introduces a lot of variables, and if it didn't work properly to begin with, and doesn't work properly afterward you don't know if its still the initial problem a new problem introduced during the parts change.
don't get me wrong, it will still probably benefit from a re-cap but if this were in front of me, I'd signal trace it out first to find where the imbalance is and fix that to verify functionality before going further.

Yup,I don't like wholesale parts replacement in the hopes of accidentally fixing a problem, either.

Agreed! That's why I was asking if there was a means to test the caps on board to get an idea of what might by going awry... i pulled the plugs off the onboard vintage speakers and connected 2 computer speakers i had in the house... they both sound fine so I'm thinking the receiver is fine... has to be the speakers or cablewires but the wires look great! No wear or separation anywhere.
I'm still waiting for my deox to arrive. When it does this thing is getting a proper bath I'll report back my findings to you fine gents.

Anyone know about the Pilot 8027? I'm finding info on other Pilot radio/receiver models but nothing on the one in this cab... the record player I found plenty of info on which is nice

I wouldn't be checking it with computer speakers because they are not the same as the speakers in the console. They just won't have the bass and acoustics the console speakers have.
You already checked the speakers by reversing the wires and you said that the issue followed the swap so this means the speakers in the console are fine. This means that if your problem was in the left speaker, you checked it by plugging the right speaker into the left speaker output and it got quiet so that shows the left channel in the receiver is the problem!
Stop thinking wires! The wires are not the problem!
The only way if it was the wire is if the wire itself were shorted or one side was disconnected. In either scenario, you wouldn't get any sound.
If you have a way to do so, you can always plug the console speakers themselves into another stereo or receiver/amplifier to check them out.

Got it! I'm still waiting for my dang deox to show up so I can start with cleaning all contacts. Once that's done I'll dig into root cause with speakers... in the meantime I did put a new stylus in have been enjoying the unit as is... with one working speaker. It's been enough to get me through my workday listening to the radio and popping in records. I'm glad I picked it up. Looking forward to getting it fully functional tho.

Okay so it's not 3 lol... that's drop position. I think it's 2 but man it's not budging I'm worried about damaging it... instead it bent my flat head driver.

I'm afraid it is 2... and it's as light as it can go 4.2, if it's a new diamond stylus should I fear playing new records on it? So far I've been using 2nd hand vinyl I'm not attached to. But I have some new 180g albums I'm worried about wrecking. I was hoping to get it as light as I could without compromising sound but looks like 4.2 is best this thing can do unless I'm missing something?
