Guys
I was wondering, Do any of you remember the Pilot receivers from the late 70's I bought a Pilot 366 quad receiver in about 1977, sometime in the early 80's it blew the outputs. now it would have been an easy fix, back then I had no idea.
Anyhow just wondering if any of you guys own any of this gear and what your opinions are.

I have a 366 quad and a 2?? (forgot model#) stereo receiver from Pilot. Both units have a blown channel. It seems Pilots build quality on the SS stuff was poor compare to their tube gear. Internally, they look kind of cheap.
I still like them and hope to get them back to 100%. They must be amongst the rarest of SS vintage receivers, from what I have seen. (perhaps because none of them work)

Pilot 525 receiver

I posted a request yesterday for info on the Pilot model 525 receiver and have zero replies. I just got one for under $25.00 and was wondering if anyone new anything about them. This one has the look of the mid 70's or 80's and the seller says it looks and works very great. JohnW

I just noticed and replied to your other post. The 525 is a nice unit and should be reliable enough. I'm not really sure about my comment concerning the quality of the SS stuff. I have 4 Pilots and the 2 smaller units have always worked fine but the 2 "higher end" receivers are both blown. Take that however you will.

I remember a line of SS receivers coming out in or around 1974. I think they were Pilot in name only but had nothing to do with the original company. I'm 90% sure on this.

Pilot 525

Yes, I also have read someplace that they just used the pilot name. I remember something about Emerson and Pilot, but don't know or remember for sure. I'll let you know how the unit sounds when it arrives. Thank, JohnW

I had a pilot 235 or 265 or something like that in the late 70's. I liked it as if was very flexible. 65 W/C.

Emerson bought Pilot from Jerrold (the cable box people) in 1965. Not sure when, but by the late 1960s/early 1970s, Pilot was just a name brand. I believe everything was made in Korea or Japan. Pilot, effectively, was gone. I don't think Emerson owned them any longer. Quality dropped after Jerrold bought them. The classic Pilot stuff we all like dates from the 1950s through early 1960s.

I'm pretty sure mine will be coming with a Korean label stuck on the back, but I could be wrong. We'll see when it gets here I guess. JohnW

Forgot all about mine--I have a 252 with a dead channel. I couldn't figure out how to get it open. Somebody here gave me info on how to get it apart, but I haven't looked at it for awhile.

It looks nice, and I hope to get it going again, if only for the novelty value.
