Pimp Your Yamaha GT-2000

Duffinator

Spin The Black Circle
After I purchased my GT-2000 last winter I gave it a thorough cleaning before placing it into use. While doing so I noticed the plastic covers on my feet had marks on them and were a bit faded. I immediately starting thinking of ways to clean them up or find a suitable replacement. I was originally going make new rings and have them CNC'd with a machine finish and three grooves cut into each one.

But after sourcing the material and placing them onto the feet I decided a simpler approach was in order. I wanted to have the rings match the finish on the massive platter. Here's what I ended up with. I ordered the rings pre cut. They arrived with a silver paint/coating on them. Once I removed the burrs with a file and sanded down the edges with 220 grit sandpaper I used 100 grit to remove the paint. Then I finished them off with 3M Scotch-Brite heavy duty green scour pads to give them a shiny finish similar to the platter.

I ordered the rings from www.onlinemetals.com and they are 6061 T6 bare aluminum with a 2.37" ID. The shipping was more than the rings and cutting and they cost less than $20 to my door.

** Ordering tip** I ordered them cut to 1" to match the original ones but they arrived a bit oversized. I suggest ordering them at 15/16 or maybe even 22mm.

So what do you think?

They don't look like an aftermarket add-on.They look like they are the stock feet.

Very good. :thmbsp: :D

I couldn't quite see the feet(off the screen)as I was reading the text of your post, and the thought was "I wonder what we are going to see, here?"

Your cosmetic modification is restrained and keeping with the minimalist tone of the GT 2000's design.

I hate you in a good way. How odd that a statement device like that would be overlooked in favor of some 'better sounding because its new' gear.

It's understandable when you consider that it was never sold outside of Japan. The mystery is just why Yamaha never sold it worldwide. :scratch2:

I would like to know if anyone has used any aftermarket feet and perhaps found them to better there table? The aforementioned feet TOTL model are 1200 a set! They better do something for that amount, they sure do look nice.

Those are the sort of new challenger to Stillpoints that I was referring to in the main GT thread. Most folks seem to be reporting very favorable results with them under both turntables and speakers and they won't break the bank. As
admittedly vain as I am, I don't think I'd want them under my GT unless maybe they were attached to an isolation platform. I'm definitely considering them for placement under speaker/stands.

Ok. I’ve installed the remaining rosewood veneer on the other, the (free)plinth. Trying to do everything right, sanded to 400 grit. I’ve also worked in This grain filler, 3 coats and have sanded it to 3000, can easily remove it all if necessary. C8501240-F424-4E6F-A6E9-2998383A4BD7.jpeg
