Ditto my SX 980 is my current vintage favorite along with an SX3900 second fav. Op that's a good looking 1250
 
Here is the bench that the SX-1250 will be going on. I currently have a 10A variac, free, a Goldstar OS-7040 40mhz scope, also free, a Weller WES51 soldering iron, a gift from my dad and a DBT which I built myself, plus a bunch of various tools and other stuff. I would like to learn how to align tuners at some point, but that's still a ways down the road.

Edit: I now have dummy loads as well! Just came today, so I can bench test receivers finally, the only thing I need now to truly complete the setup is a distortion analyzer, I plan on getting a HP 333A or 334A.

Very nice bench setup Matt, and congrats on the Pioneer you are going to love that receiver! Shame you are not closer I would love to have an extra reliable tech.
 
I'm going to be posting a restore thread there, in fact let me do that right now, just to get it started.
 
I followed your threads and I'll bet it sounds good, but I have not heard the SX-1250 and would love to at least once and you have a recapped one to boot. I love the sound of my SX-1980 on phono and the tuner is fabulous.
Your lucky to have found one me thinks. I'm lucky to have mine and got it from a lover of it. What speakers did you say you are playing it through?

Nice setup you have there also on the bench, I'v always wanted to do the same but never got around to setting anything up yet. Maybe some day I will, then agian maybe I'll just stick with my ability of restorations :D

I bet the HPM's sound great after a re-cap
 
Never heard them either but I understand their great reputation. Sounds like alot of fun. How bout phono action and don't you just love the look of an SX? I am still a Kenwood fan but only a select few of their beautiful receivers would be my keepers now, as with Pioneer. Enjoy, wish I were there.
