Pioneer 6 disc CD magazine

Last week I picked up a Pioneer PD-M702 CD player from the curb, with the remote and magazine! All it needed was a light exterior cleaning.

First time I've ever used a cdp with a magazine. I've seen extra mags at the thrifts before, and am thinking of picking up an extra, but I'm not sure how to tell if they will fit. Are all Pioneer magazines compatible/interchangeable? If not, are they different enough to be easily identified?:scratch2:

I was also wondering if Pioneer ever offered a single play adapter that would fit in place of the mag and allow single disc use without removing the magazine?

Nice coincidence that you should ask this today. I just confirmed a few hours ago that I'll be getting a Pioneer PD-M900 tomorrow, and was wondering the same thing. It comes with one cartridge, but it would definitely be nice to have extras to "swap around", and a single-play cartridge, too.

I always avoided the cartridge style players as junk, but it seems a few of these Pioneers were actually pretty good-sounding, so I caved in on this one (it also helped that it was priced pretty cheaply! ).

As far as I can tell (I own three of the 6 disc cartridge CDPs) the 6 disc cartridge is interchangable, and a single tray cartridge will work with them also (see pic). Just make sure CD is inserted face down and your good to go!

Thanks. If I'm reading that correctly, the 6 disc magazine, with the swing-out trays, is sort of a standard that fits a number of other manufacturers, correct? Presumably, the single-play cartridge would follow the same standard. If it has slide-out trays, it won't work, yes?

I haven't paid much attention to Pioneer CDPs, mostly because of the cartridge changer... seemed like a lot of moving parts to go bad, and you can't change discs "on the fly" like a carousel. But this one was free and it actually sounds very good. Doesn't have as much data on the display though, as my Sonys and Denon do.

Along with this player, I also found a Pioneer CT-W401 dual tape deck, a VSX-5000 A/V receiver, and a pair of "Audio Monitor" speakers. I left the speakers behind since they were surely 'white vans'. The tape deck has the same problems as another similar model I already have, so there won't be any parts donating. The receiver is so-so, only has four speaker connections, and the tuner is marginal... unfortunately, the remote wasn't tossed out with it:tears:

Right now the CD changer is in the garage system, along with another curb-find Sharp dual cassette player. I like to listen to books on tape/CD when I'm working in the garage/yard and these are perfect for that... don't have to stop and change tapes or cds with dirty hands.:yes:

i'v a pd-m610 that i'v used almost daily sense new. it is still going strong. came with 6 disk tray and a 1 disk tray. you need to get a pioneer tray,thay are the onlys that will work.

Right- I've got Pioneer, Onkyo, Magnavox and Denon cartridges that work with the Pioneer PD-M series. Part #s are listed in the link I gave above.

The slide-straight-out trays were for the Pioneer car players (although they did make at least one car player that had the flip-outs, I really wanted one of those for a while...).

Mine is an 1141. The label on the top says it works for home or car audio players, so there must have been some car units that used the swing-out style.

Now that I'll be looking for one, they'll probably be scarce as hen's teeth.:yes:

Looking for one of the car changers? Yeah, I'd think that would be a tough one. Good luck with that. If you're looking for the carts, they're pretty readily available, even new if you want to spend the $$$.

No, not the car changer... the carts. Both vehicles have CD changers that will swallow 4 CDs right through the loading slot... no cartridges needed!:yes:

Will a Pioneer 6 disk magazine work with an Onkyo? I bought a changer at an auction and it had no magazine. The Onkyo branded magazines seem hard to find. The Onkyo model is DX-M505 and the magazine is KC-M6.

I believe so as long as it is the same design, it looks to be. I have an Onkyo magazine and it works in my Pioneer 6-disk players. here is a picture of so of mine including the Onkyo one.

Thanks so much for your reply! There seems to be a lot of Pioneer magazines available but no Onkyo. I want it for my garage system. Think I'll take the plunge and buy a used Pioneer off the auction site. Thanks again.
