Hello.
Recently found my parents old Pioneer A-8 amplifier, but it makes this loud static noise which makes it annoying to listen to anything. The loudness of the static is relative to how much the treble is turned up or down. The amp also has a "line straight" button which makes the signal skip the balance, tone, and stereo/mono mode. When the button is pressed the static dissappears completely.
I did some research, and concluded that it could be caused by a 2sc1400 type transistor in the circuit board which handles the tone, however changing it did not help as the static is still present and now it also makes a buzzing sound which i guess could be caused by a ground issue.
I have tried cleaning the pots, which made them less scratchy but the static is still present.
Also, after a few minutes of listening, the right channel begins to distort. The line straight button has no effect, as it is present on both modes.
Any help or advice is much appreciated, as this is my first time trying to fix an issue like this. And with how big the amp is and how much circuitry is inside it, its a bit overwhelming
