Pioneer C-5600 speakers power up, but no sound comes out

View media item 5506Hello, I came here because I was told that you guys are pretty good with this stuff. Just recently, I purchased a Pioneer C-5600 with 2 speakers as a present for my friend who just recently lost his house and father as a result of the Butte fire. Aside from the fact that this particular set has 4 amplifiers, I couldn't find too much information on it, but for $20, I thought I'd take a gamble. When I got home, I found out that one of the speakers does not work. I repaired a cut in the wiring, and now when the speaker is powered up, it makes a soft thump sound and lights up, but no other sound comes out. I've tested the other speaker in both inputs in the back of the receiver and they both worked, so I think the problem is isolated to the speaker itself. Has anybody else experienced a similar issue, or know what might be wrong? Any and all input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

All switches are set correctly, sound will come out of the good speaker but not the bad speaker. I can plug the good speaker into both the left and right channels and it sounds great. The "balance" knob is set in the middle, if I turn it to the side that the good speaker is on, nothing changes, but if I turn it to the side of the bad speaker than all sound stops. I appreciate the input though!
