Pioneer CS-767 upgrading?

I have a set of these I bought when I was just getting into audio. Over the years I've stopped using them in favour of other speakers such as a pair of Sony SS-S9's which really are great performers. Good bass response and very clear highs etc.

Despite the 767's having large bass drivers, you dont get very much bass at all and I believe the crossover for them is somewhere around 1-2khz... I wanted to know if there was much scope for upgrading these cabinets and putting in some more powerful/stronger woofers and maybe changing the other drivers too and adding better dampening to get a better sound out of them?

If you're looking for a project, possibly, but it's rarely cost effective compared with offloading (selling, or just giving them away) these and purchasing something else (plus the odds that you'll get everything matched exactly to the cabinet are pretty low - ported cabinets are more difficult to find correct matching woofers than sealed, since there are a lot more variables)

Thanks for your input, I wouldn't mind the project, I could adjust the port or remove it to accommodate a replacement woofer. Would it be necessary to adjust the crossover at all? The cabinets are in good condition and look nice which is why I wanted to try upgrading them. I do have some software to help calculate frequency response for bass drivers in ported enclosures.
