Pioneer CS-901 KABUKI!

I know this is a very old thread, however, I thought I'd post about my CS901A's that I've owned since 1973 ? I think. I bought them when I was stationed at Kadena AFB in Okinawa - so I've had them close to 40 years now. I've gone for months at a time not listening to them, but they actually still sound as good now as the day I got them. Decent sound, not great but at least they're loud and paired with my Pioneer SX1010 bought at the same time, I can't complain. I do plan on giving them to my son next weekend since I've put together a nice vintage setup for him and he's always loved these old speakers.

Just thought I'd throw in my .02 worth !

Wow, passing down the Karma, very cool. My daughter has shown some interest but she's not quite into it yet. Maybe my grandson or granddaughter, guess we'll see. Oh, don't have 901's but do have CS99's and some Sansui SP3500's, them be kabuki!

update

I was cleaning out a LOT of stuff a while ago and letting go of everything I felt I wouldn't actually use much or just didn't care for.

These were on the "maybe" list. My broker was taking everything and anything he thought he could flip. I let go a of lot of well respected and desired vintage stuff (I seriously had too much for any one lifetime).

I hooked them up for a test drive again and took time to pop the backs and clean the pots.


They are staying right where they are.

I've been enjoy the hell out a pair of the same I picked up as the add ons to a Kenwood Tuner Amp combo I picked up ! Yes about the power when I hooked these up to the new Harmon Kardon 3490 120 x 2 at 8 ohms high current receiver they just loved it ! I did add a set of Bose that I was willing to sacrifice I guess to get the highs for a while but just tpday I dropped back down to just the Pioneers and they have thoroughly opened up to a very nice stand alone set! I'm loving them with my rock and roll but that means beautiful vocals to me with the band working their best! They sound awesome with the Grateful Dead Hell in a Bucket , Led Zep Dazed & Confused and Houses of the Holy too! But I never knew rap could sound as good as these bring it! Turning on the local station WJLB in Detroit for example presented me with beautiful music for about an hour but I ended up vibrating my left hip enough to be a nuisance while sitting on the couch DUE TO LISTENING LEVELS! WOW And my left hip is just fine or is it?

Oh and I bought mine from the original purchaser who admitted that after making it out of Vietnam he knew he had to buy a sweet system or else! When he got stationed in Spain he immediately bought these ! So military sounds right to me !
