Pioneer CS-99A speakers... acoustic suspension?

I acquired a pair of Pioneer CS-99A speakers.

Since there is no port, are these, by default, acoustic suspension speakers?

And if so, shouldn't they be filled with acoustic batting/fiberglass? The EPI 150s I have are acoustic suspension and I filled them with batting (and they sound fabulous, BTW).

One of the Pioneers, had some batting... maybe a fifth full. The other had zip, zilch, zero batting.

If it's a dumb question, please enlighten me.. that's what this forum is largely about. I can handle it.

I'm planning on reselling these Pioneers and I want to add batting if that's necessary.

They don't HAVE to have stuffing inside the cabinets, many early speakers didn't. But it's a good idea to use some, especially in sealed AKA acoustic suspension speakers. If you're planning on selling them on though, there's no point adding it. With the market price of these speakers versus people's opinions of them, I would leave them original.

From what I understand these did have some batting in them. Not much but some. Earlier versions had the batting on the interior walls and not just sitting in the cabinet. The problem on some I had a long time ago was the batting was on the walls but fell down in to the speaker taking some things with it. I wasn't really that enamored with them anyway so never fixed them.

I can't say positively because Pioneer made some changes along the way to try to "improve" them before they were discontinued. If you're looking to use them I'd try matching the amounts between them. If you want to pass them along then I'd just clean them up and pass them along. I believe there is a thread here about redoing the crossovers and it does make quite a difference overall.

If you got them cheap you may just want to experiment and see what sounds best to you for use in a garage or bedroom system.

They should have stuffing inside. Someone must have removed it from one speaker. Thought I had picture of inside can't find. Seems to me was pretty full of batting more than 1/5.

Thanks for the inputs. I plan on selling them, and just want to get them in good sounding condition. At this point, they sound good and all speakers are working. I'll add some more batting as I think that might be good for their performance.
