Hello, I just got a pair of Pioneer CS-G204 speakers on ebay along with a Pioneer SX-203 receiver... I am wondering where I can get a tweeter for 1 of my speakers, it sounds like it is going bad. Anyone know where I can get one?? I am using all pioneer stereo equipment, hers; what I have..

Pioneer SX-850 receiver 65w/channel
Pioneer Cassette deck CT F4242
Pioneer 6 disc Changer
Pioneer Equalizer
Pioneer CS-811 and CS-G204 speakers
Technics Turntable.

Generally with most speakers you really want to try to find authentic replacement drivers instead of going with a generic partsexpress driver. Using a generic replacement, you'll be changing the sound in lots of unknown ways depending on how it interacts with the crossover, etc. These pioneers seem like pretty low-end models though, so probably not a big deal. At the very very least, make sure to replace both tweeters at the same time (even if only one is broken). The LAST thing you want is mismatched drivers between your two speakers.

Chris Brown is right, don't just slap some tweets in there, and at least do both.

Thanks for the info Chris!! First thing is I got to see if this tweeter is even going to work in the speaker.. my tweeter had 4 screws, the one I ordered has 3. it may not even work. if it does, I'll order another one and replace the other tweeter also. These speakers sound awfully good along with the CS-811's I have.. The Pioneer receiver I use really drives them quite well. Can only turn volume up to #2, and that is really loud and clear.

if this doesn't work, where can I find the original tweeters?? I looked on ebay, no one has them.. Looked on internet, can't find them.. any ideas???

Yes, I signed up in 2003.. but never used Audio karma until now.. back then I think I was using a kenwood KR-4070 receiver, it was the first vintage receiver I bought.

You may need to rout out the hole a little for a different pair of tweeters. Like Chris said, these aren't really upper end, so you can have fun with them. I have a pair of those CTS tweeters on Parts Express, and perhaps those would mate well. I wish I knew the crossover points of those speakers.

Okay, just looked at those speakers. Looks like average grade Pio stuff from late 1980's...I had a pair similar to those. Pretty much any pair of decent tweeters would work. I'd get an ohm meter and see what the impedance is, and go from there.

Thank You Onwardjames... I'll do that then.. because these speakers do sound really nice paired with the CS-811's from the 70's I have..I got these on ebay, along with a Pioneer SX-203 Reciever for 80.00, so I didn't get hurt.

You could try a more generic search, just for Pioneer "CS-G"

I notice many in the series use similar drivers.

I had a pair of Pioneer CS-G403 speakers a few years back. After a night of running them in parallel along with a pair of Cerwin-Vega D-9's neither the tweeter or the mid produced sound anymore and the woofer cone was frozen stiff. Poor little guys just couldn't handle the power I guess :dunno:

Thx, Chris, did that search and no joy!! I'll find those original tweeters sometime, somewhere. Well, my Pioneer SX 850 is 65w/channel, and these 2 pair of speakers handle that quite well. I have a pair of JVC speakers also.. they just don't sound right with Pioneer stuff...probably gonna give them away sometime. What kind of power where you running on those Pioneer speakers to blow em out like that??

You Know what... that looks like the one in my 204 speakers.. I am gonna watch it until the other one gets here, if that doesn't work, I'll get one or 2 of these. Thanks for the help!!

I used the phrase Pioneer CS-G tweeter, and found many others.
I'd pull yours, and see if there is any numbers to go by, and definitely find out the ohmage.

There ya go. Should be easy now. Good luck.

And I'm having a disconnect with your avatar...you're a sabbath fan, yet you have Iron Maiden for your avatar..??

All good. Both bands rock, tho I'm more Sabbath.
