I've never really paid much attention to the CS speaks. I've always been interested in HPMs. My nephew started looking at the CS series to go with his newly purchased blue faced Pioneer receiver. Much to my surprise he wound up with a pair of CS-88a and they sound darn pretty good. What really surprised me was the build quality. Although the grills on the CS series look like something from a funeral home, they are made out of solid wood. The boxes are nice and thick. Now it looks like Pioneer just threw as many speakers into each box as they could fit. The 88s being a six way speaker. Even so, the CS line turned out to be a pretty good, be it, quirky line of speakers. For $50 bucks for the pair, I'd say my nephew made out pretty well.

I like my CS-77 speakers; I have two pair, one modded and one stock. They do have very nice cabs. I'm generally pleased with them, and they're also quite efficient. Sound-wise, I tend to prefer other speakers, but that is not to say I don't like them. I do, I just like some others I have a bit more.

Yeah, I have some CS-E450's that I really like. They have some pretty blah CS series speakers, as well.

I've owned the CS-88a's and still have a pair of CS-77a's. I think they are fabulous. You are right - incredible build quality. I've found that the 88a's and the 77a's sound pretty much identical. Both needed the right amp to bring them alive but when the right amp was used - they rocked. Very impressive soundstage and an overall joy to listen to.

I bought a pair of CS 88A's for $45. I just recently had the tweeters refoamed which is a common problem. I think they sound pretty good with my Realistic STA 2100. Very efficient too.
