Pioneer CT-20 cassette deck suddenly stops

Hi. I have a Pioneer CT-20 cassette deck that suddenly stops when playing a cassette. I thought it was the reel drive motor malfunctioning, but it seems to be more than that. If anyone knows the corporate of the problem that would be a huge help.

So, you took a multimeter and checked the supply of power to the motor while the play button was pushed ?

Your probably going to need a schematic downloaded from an online source….

Open the case and locate the tape counter. Look nearby for a tachometer that likely is driven by the counter, which is likely driven by a belt. The tach is a simple device, consisting of a rotating piece that is seen by a sensing component to look for tape movement. No tach movement-auto stop is engaged. That belt might be slipping. Run the deck long enough to see if the tach stops spinning anytime during play.

The above is just a general old school approach to resolve intermittent stop condition. It's not model specific. There are several other conditions that can cause the symptom of random stoppage. A belt is the most likely issue.
