Pioneer CT-6R stops during playback

Working on my old Pioneer CT-6R and everything works kind of.
The auto stop shuts the deck off randomly during playback. It sometimes shuts it down during rewind too.
Sometimes it only likes to engage playback if I pause it first then enter play and unpause it.

What is the sensor that is triggering the shutoff?

I see that this deck uses hall sensors and direct drive reels.
Oh and that the transport is a disaster best abandoned…

Well the deck has now played 2 tapes fully, even auto reversing and playing in the opposite direction automatically.
That’s something it hasn’t done in years.
All I did was to pull the transport out and clean the tape detection switches.
I pulled it to check capacitors on the reel control board but found nothing. Of course two multi pin connectors were removed and reinstalled, but I think I did that when I changed the belt a while back.
So I’m not quite ready to declare victory yet but it’s looking good.
Possibly it was just that the tape presence switch was a bit flaky.

If you don't already have it you might want to find Pioneer ARP-001-0 Service Manual. It says it's for CT-7R but it also covers the CT-6R. I have a copy but when I attempted to attach the file size was to large (15.9mb) This SM is very detailed.

I discovered another issue with the deck in the meantime.
The shaft that holds the dummy erase head which has tape guides on it, the one only used in reverse playback, is loose in the pot metal bracket! It cannot be adjusted properly as it spins in the housing and is about 1.5 mm too far out.
I might try to loctite it back in position if I pull the transport out again.
It’s a pretty bad mechanical failure.

Bradbrews, I'm sorry for my lack of response (I didn't receive any notification that you had replied) but anyways ... Did you manage to repair your CT-6R? If not, I'm pretty sure I can help you with the loose Erase Head Block Posts (1 post for erase head, 2nd post for "Dummy" head) Here are a couple of pics that I took from doing the same repair.

So you just pulled it all the way out and glued it back in position?
What glue did you use?
