pioneer ct-f650 cassette deck has low output

Mine is in realatively okay condition, but I did have to replace the belt. on max out put on both my speakers and on the tape deck it sounds great, and I knokw it's not just the tapes. does anyone know a preferably cheap way to fix this issue?

I have the same issue with a Nakamichi BX-300. It's going to one of the Nak doctors this summer, definitely needs a recap and calibration. I know what you mean, mine doesn't really open up on the high end frequency's until the output adjust is cranked.

On any deck, at this age, the usual maintenance should be completed.

All switches and pots should be cleaned. Pay particular attention to the pots. The Output pot carries the signal to your receiver-if dirty, it will impede that signal.
Clean the heads thoroughly. You can use firm pressure-they can take it-just rub in the direction of tape travel.

You took care of the belt, but there are other rubber parts that may be weak, but if mechanically functional, the transport is ok now-you can wait.

After these maintenance steps are complete, then you would need a calibrated level tape, typically 3kz, and adjust the playback level to spec.
