Pioneer CT-F9191 AutoStop

Hello everyone.
This is my first post here as a new member, so hopefully all is well with it.
I have just purchased a nice CT-F9191 deck and in addition to the well known malfunctioning clutch assembly there is a problem with the AutoStop.
The tape reaches the end of play and will not engage the AutoStop function.
Although the tape has indeed stopped, the "counter" continues to run as if the tape is still playing.
I believe I have read some where that the stop function is in some way connected to the counter via
a "magnetic switch?" or solenoid?
Thanks for any information on this.

If the counter continues to count when the take-up reel has stopped, the belt to the counter is mis-threaded.

Enjoy,

Hello Rich.
Sounds like an easy enough fix. I am going to order a belt kit from WJOE Radio for this deck and get the clutch assembly repaired. Once in there with the new belts I can properly thread a new one to the counter.
Thanks for the reply.
Daryl.

The belt goes from the take-up reel base to the counter assy. Not from the capstan or any other place.

Enjoy,
Rich P

In response to your earlier PM, removing the clutch means removing the transport from the chassis, then removing the plate holding the FF/REW motor and brake release solenoid, - which is the one in my instructions that you use a NEW bit (phillips 1 IIRC off the cuff) to keep from tearing up the screw head.
Like I say in the boilerplate - draw pictures to give yourself instructions for when you are doing reassembly.

Hi, Rich.
Thanks for the added info.
Time for me to open her up and "go in" for a beginning look-see.
From the exploded view in the service manual it looks as if there are two belts involved with the counter. The one you speak of, from the take up reel, and a shorter one running from the assembly that the longer belt engages to the actual counter itself perhaps?.
Take care.
Daryl.

Thanks Mark.
I am studying the service manual for the deck and will definitely follow your advice about drawings and notes, I will also take some photos of the parts and all once in there as the disassembly progresses.
Take care.
Daryl.

Both are short belts. One from take up reel to the tape movement sensor assembly outside of the transport's "envelope", the other goes from the tape movement sensor assembly to the tape counter, FURTHER outside of the transport's "envelope".
The wide longer one runs on the massive capstan counterweight, to a pulley on the capstan drive motor.

Is it necessary to remove the counter assembly from the transport "envelope" for removal of the transport envelope/section?
I have the 4 large screws holding the transport section removed but there are two bundles of wires going through the bottom chasis directly behind the counter assembly.
The counter assembly hits those and will not move back far enough to allow clearance for the counter assembly from the front for lifting the transport section out.
There appear to be two screws attaching the counter assembly to the transport "envelope".
I am reluctant to apply a great deal of pressure on the wiring harnesses to force them back far enough for the counter assembly to clear.
