Pioneer CT-F9191 Problem

This is about the old problem with CT-F9191's of no FF or Rew due to the
failure of the FF Idler assembly (RXA_581). I know at one time that Markthefixer had a repair he was doing on these idlers to correct the problem, but I have sent him a couple of messages with no response. Does anyone know if there is anything recent on fixing this old problem? This is a great old machine in nice condition, except for this one problem, and I would like to get it going again. Have new belts in it, and it sounds great, just can't FF/Rew.

From what I've read in the Pioneer forum, Mark has unfortunately been hospitalized. That is no doubt why you haven't heard back from him. I along with other AK'ers wish him a full and speedy recovery.

I also had cracked idler on my CT-F1000 as was outlined by Mark. The fix that Mark provides is the correct and permanent solution to this problem. Before going to Mark, I decided to try my own low tech DIY fix. Here's what I did - after carefully disassembling the idler, I took a sheet of toilet paper (2 ply), folded it in half and then cut out a 1 cm square. I placed the TP between the bearing cap and the idler post and then compressed the entire assembly. When I compressed the assembly, it made a squeek sound due to the increased friction. You can test the fit by pulling on the cap to make sure it's good and tight. In my case, it was very tight so I decided to try it to see how long it would hold together. That was seven months ago and the FF/REW still works perfectly.

Having said this, I would still recommend Mark's fix but you may want to try this in the meantime. The good thing is that this DYI mod is non-destructive and is completely reversible.

Hey Les

Thanks for the tip. Sounds feasable, but I may wait a while and see if I hear anything from Mark. I had not heard that he was hospitalized. I too wish him well.
