Pioneer Elite DV-45A

Dumped CDs? WHY?!

I have always had a good Lp set-up and like vinyl better SQ wise. But living in a tiny house I thought I would give CDs another shot for storage space. Now that you can get better than CD SQ streaming I went that route with vinyl. Keep the vinyl I have to own and a huge streaming library for listening whenever and were ever.

I think you may be able to fit more vinyl in the same space as CDs, unless you dump all the jewel cases, which I would not recommend. I have a combination of CDs, vinyl and my own streaming server at home.

Records rule.

My thinking on the whole dac thing. Purchase a great player "used" the dac will most likely be better than a stand alone you could purchase new for a couple of hundred dollars, and you get a great transport thrown in all for around $80.

The Sony's I've mentioned in other threads have great dacs already, are the poster child for reliability, and are cheap enough who cares anyway.

Now if you're going all in for CD playback, spend $2500, $10,000, or even more on a dac, why in hell would anyone want to cheap out on the transport?

I have a CDP-950 with a TDA-1541 DAC from 1988. That's where I plan to stay till it doesn't work any more.

I get what your saying and do not totally disagree
That M8a sounded every bit as good and many thought better than the ES. Plus you can lots of inputs and just select a source. :dunno:

The separate DAC makes your $89 Blu-Ray sound like that ES and the CCA or whatever and your laptop all sound great with one box.

Only if the separate dac is as good or better than the one in the ES, and it's still debatable if the cheap transport will compete no matter the dac. Again, not all transports are created equally, 1's and 0's be damned.

Maybe this will help.

DD tables as a whole will generally spec better than most belt drives. Why then if a "cheap" DD is spinning the record more accurately, with a better signal to noise ratio don't DD tables all sound better than even the most expensive belt driven tables? I mean isn't the table just a transport? It's only job to spin the record accurately without spurious artifacts?

Many think this is also true, and we have numerous threads concerning this same issue.

No, I am telling you that is what we did with the whole streaming v CD thing

Tried many different set ups. The M8a did sound better.

Not all ES decks were created equally, by 2007 the ES was just as much lettering as the Pioneer Elite line had become. I have four quality Sony decks here, two are ES units, and guess what, all sound great but the older non ES unit beats both the ES models.

He has an older one we thru into the mix also. I will get the model from him. He it new and it’s the one the 2007 one replaced. Off the top of my head does 779 make sense :dunno:.

Anyway I came back to edit my last post with this. I should of said as good as the ES, Not everyone liked it better, maybe half. Everyone thought it did great though.

Edited my post above to include this.

Not all things can be quantified.

Are you comparing the exact same needle, cartridge, and record? Did you level match the sound output of two turntables? Is either turntable quartz lock? Did you do a blind test?

All things can be quantified. People just either don't have time or can't be bothered to properly blind test things and produce objective measurements. And, I don't blame them. It's work. And it's not fun to do. And you are also a variable in the equation. How your head is facing. Where you are sitting. Did you flush your ears out with an ear wax cleaning kit prior to testing? Did you have your hearing tested to see where your high end hearing cuts off? What other noises were present at the time of the test?

Quantify love.

And you wonder why nobody wanted to participate, I'm out.
