Just wanted to share my latest work. I just fixed this pioneer f91 tuner. I got it for free from an ak member since it was not working. After about 4-5 hours of tracking down the issue and repairing, it is working well again. The power supply had 5 bad caps and 1 bad diode. The board on this model has very fragile traces. They literally fall off the board when you desolder the old component. Anyways I had to jumper two parts since the traces failed. Overall the repair went smoothly. Just had to follow the schematic and test the power supply voltages and fix where it was off. The most difficult part was flipping the board up and back and re inserting the very fragile ribbon cables every time you go to test it again. I must have had this board standing up a dozen times. Fortunately it didn’t crack. I will say this tuner sounds as good as the kt917 I had in its place. Testing continues but it’s working now where before it would turn on but not pick up a signal.
Just use the fundamentals you learned on audiokarma from the old heads and apply it to every unit you work on. And don’t listen to the nay sayers. Press on and play. Safety first people!
