Pioneer HPM-150 -> Missing Bass Freqs

darko

... and never give up!
Hi All,

Is there some Issues with the Bassdrivers in the Pio HPM-150?

I get Yesterday a very nice Pair for ~450$.

I ask the Seller before, how the Surrounds are.
He say they are in very good Condition. No defects.

Ok, I ride to him, for picking-up the HPM-150.

I remove the Covers and was very surprised.
They dont have Rubber or other Foam Surrounds.
They have rippled Paper-Edge Cones.

I dont saw any HPM-150 with Paper-Coned Edge
I Bassdrivers.

Some Info could be helpfull.
How many different Bassdrivers, Pioneer was driving in the HPM-150??

AND: This little Binding Posts are more than little...
What You Guys have done with this? Upgrade/Replace with ..?

Best Regards,
Darko

Re-Capping HPM-150 -> Any Tipps?

Hi All,

For a recapping, what Manufacturer/Modell should be "fine" ?

Thank You,
Darko

Hi Basite,

Thak You for the Tip with Mundorf.

I was just reading my Eyes bloody-red in this ones:

http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=78978&page=5

and:

http://www.humblehomemadehifi.com/Cap.html

Thats a lot of Stuff, I have to learn before I decide.

I cant sell the Pioneer HPM-150, before I hear them "singing" right.
The upper Tonal Area is even not present or very closed.
I cant believe, how "muddy" HPM-150 sounds now.

Ok, Iam maybe not a easy Listener. In my Room, I can switch between
Dynaudio Profil4, Yamaha NS-1000 and this new Monsters.

My Wife say: "keep the Dynaudio, sell the Pioneers!". She's maybe right.
BUT: First I will re-Cap them as good as possible (~200Eu.), than I can
decide better.

Have a good Week,
Darko

( I was 3Years before in Oostende. Best Chips I ever have eating before )

IMHO the 150's arent even in the same league. Nice speaker, but you'll hear the faults you speak of.

Your wife is right. (as amazing as that sounds! :D)

Tubes on HPMs

Hi All,

Today I receive a brandnew, (but little used),

Tube Amplifier: Dared VP-16.

+ The Bass is a bit better!
+ The Stage is wider!
+ Its more easy to listen, very nice sounding Amp

- Same "closed" Sound, like a Carpet is hanging in the Front of the HPM-150.

Ok, 3:1! ( For the little 2x17Watt Tube Amp )

Have the Tweeters and Mids some Ferrofluid in?

On the Frequencies-Network is only one little ELNA Lytic. Others are some kind of Foil Caps. I will first replace the ELNA ( Low ESR? -> SHURE!! )

Keep You informed,

Best Regards,
Darko

No paper edge surround for HPM 150 or 1500 woofers - only foam edge. You can buy new replacements from Pioneer for about $260 each.

Thank You for this Info.

Yes, it looks like a Replacement Woofer.
Have allready contact the Seller.

I saw the Pio Site with the Original Woofers for this Price.
Well, it is a high Grade Chassis, but for the $ I have payed, too much.

Cu,

;-)

Thank You for the Replay.

Ha! Its a Question, what to do!

In one Hand I have here THE Pioneer HPM-150!
In the other, they need Parts to sound, like should be.

... but, If they sound like HPM-150's would I like it ?

Heck, its a crispy Situation ...

The Seller want pay back the Money! He say, he dont know nothing about.
On Epay the Woofers are nice in the Pictures. You can not say, in witch Condition they reely are. Magnet Shifts, Cone Breaks, Coil Overheatings ..

First I need a Beer or two, than I need a Break.

Lets rock and roll Baby!

Thats LIFE!

The Best Thing I can do is become a Situation like This.
So, I have the Green Light for Buying HPM Woofers AND optimizing old Speakers ..

:-)

... always looking forward!

Ah yes, bring the old back from near dead. Very good :)

Drivers and caps, good gaskets, maybe wire size upgrade to woofer for a little better transient carrying capacity (helps with bass/kettle drum)? I've seen (and bought) good Russian Mil-Spec poly capacitors for not too much money (from their Radar maintenance parts stock?). Really nice build and should last for ever?

Hi Luno,

Thats a cool Tip! Thank You :-)

Have a Partner in Sibiria.
He's in Business with Tubes ans Caps.

How is Life in Nappa County?

CU,

Best Regards,
Darko
