Pioneer HPM-60 Replacement Woofers

All,

My Pioneer SX-750 amp is in the shop for recapping and LED upgrade and I've turned my attention to my Pioneer HPM-60s. Too many years ago to remember, I replaced the woofers with Pyramid brand woofers. They sound pretty bad now and I'd like to replace them to go with the refurbished receiver. What should I look for in replacement woofers. The SX-750 receivers has a "continuous power output of 50 watts per channel minimum RMS at 8 ohms from 20 Hertz to 20,000 Hertz," according to the instruction manual. I was looking at a 10-inch replacement woofer from Simplyspeakers that's has the following rating
  • Power: 130 watts RMS, 250 watts max
Would my receiver have enough power to drive this woofer?

Thanks for any advice.

Don't think about the receiver.
You must find drivers that "fit" with the cabinet and crossover...i've tested many replacement woofers for the hpm-60 and the best i've found are infinity quantum "b".

Welcome to Audiokarma! The absolute best solution would be to find a set of original HPM-60 woofers. You can set up a search with alerts on epay, or become an audiokarma subscriber and post a want ad on Bartertown.

Thanks. I Googled around for the Infinity Quantum "b" and couldn't find anything. Is there another brand you'd recommend?

Thank you. Yeah, there appears to be nothing out there on ebay right now, but I'll keep looking and post something on Bartertown.

I think he means the 10" woofer from the 1977 Infinity Qb, P/N 902-2128 and substitute 902-2864.
https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/infinity/qb.shtml
Specs say the Qb goes down to 42Hz and was crossed at 600Hz. In comparison, the HPM-60 crossed at 1200Hz and claimed to get down to 35Hz.

I do remember guys who put these in their HPM-40s and -60s when the original woofers were "damaged".

I have SX-750 driving HPM-100s in bedroom. It works fine and has enough power to drive your speakers. No problem there. Good luck with the woofers. I would keep searching and eventually they will show up. You should edit your profile to display your location and maybe somebody can help.

I Have a pair of HPM-700's and one of the cones is shattered. I have been trying for months to get new cone kits but without any luck. Simply Speakers told me they no longer repair Pioneers as they don't have the cone kit's and will not be stocking them again. I searched for compatable speakers and there are none even similar. I have bought a couple of Beymer's and they should be here this week. I will fit them (Though they are completely different dimesions) when they arrive. I will however keep looking for Pioneer replacements. Not may I add HPM.700's. They are too fragile.
