Pioneer HPM 700 Speakers

Hello,

Newbie here and first time posting. I just stumbled on these Pioneer HPM 700 speakers (locally for $150) and noticed that the woofers are different than many of the photos I have seen online. Could it be that the woofers were swaped or maybe Pioneer made two different looking woofers? The seller is not sure... Hopefully someone with more expertise can shed some light into this. I'm really thinking of grabbing them and pairing them with a nice Pioneer SX 980 I just got.

The HPM 700 came with the PG (graphite) woofers and mids which were extremely brittle. Looks like the ridged cones may have been replaced. They do look like the original frames so maybe they were reconed.
 
You'll have to pull out one ( both ? ) woofer to be sure.

They look pretty good but, you never know.
 
Thank you both for the response! I am out of town and unable to inspect them. But I really want them lol! If they don’t sell by Tuesday, I think I may bite the bullet and grab them..
 
Graphite woofers are pretty much impossible to find, reconing
or replacing. Supplies were apparently exhausted years ago.
The different-looking woofers might be someone else's results.
 
$150 is pretty cheap so not a big deal. The woofers are not original. Identical pair (non-original woofers) on Phoenix Craigslist for $300 that have been advertised for months.
I wouldn't get that excited.

Pioneer Woofers are strange. I have a set of Pioneer HPM 900's whose woofers are made of carbon fiber that fails often. I found that Pioneer HPM 100 woofer's fit perfectly into the Pioneer HPM speakers. I just used black speaker paint to make the woofers look a little like the carbon fiber woofers of the HPM 900's.

... a blindingly obvious option I didn't consider when I was attempting to repair some 900s.

I wasn't about to throw away my Clear Lucite Pioneer HPM 900 demonstration speakers because I could not find a replacement HPM 900 woofer. I have 8 pairs of Pioneer HPM 100 speakers. I finally measured the Woofers of both speakers and realized they were the exact same size. I realize my Pioneer HPM 900's are no longer pristine and authentic but I'd rather they continue to be used instead of being thrown away. These are too rare and nice to be thrown away.

Purists will hate my substitution of HPM 100 woofers and removal of broken HPM 900 woofers. Even finding another carbon fiber HPM 900 does not insure it will continue working. The Pioneer HPM 100 has a very hardy robust woofer that will likely give lasting optimum performance.

Jnevill....I have an intact pair of HPM 700...are you aware of what ideal conditions are for the graphite woofers? Mine are in the garage....
