Thank for the link Mike. Really nice, and I am into testing but it's to far away from me for an audition. My SX-D7000 at .005 distortion needs a amp to match her crystal clear shine. From what I have found I am leaning towards the Hafler DH-5000 STOCK. Although I am interested in the musical concepts.com upgrades.

Spec 2's generally test at clipping , 334 watts into 8 ohms both loaded and driven. I own 4 Spec 2's , 2 of them worked over to EW's specifications, however after Whte Oak Audio came out with their new driver boards and new fully comp backplane boards the Phase Linear 700B's are now the Alpha dogs around my place, simply a beast at 505 watts per into 8 both loaded and driven, 775 into 4 ohms, both loaded and driver, and a better sounding amp I have not heard yet...

The spec 2 specs shows 250 watts per channel into 8Ω (stereo) but a Total Harmonic Distortion of 0.1 % @ 250 Watts it would not do the Pioneer SX D7000 at Total harmonic distortion: 0.005% justice . At 334 Watts I am sure those specs change. The Phase Linear 700B is off the chain at Power output: 350 watts per channel into 8Ω (stereo)

Damping factor: 1000
Input sensitivity: 1.75V
Signal to noise ratio: 100dB

I take it that the new driver boards somehow increase it to 505 Watts. Amazing how much latent power there was in that unit before the new engineering was developed.

The power ratings on the PL 700 were very conservative. Advertised power at clip was 450 watts. Output power was mostly tested at 117 volts on the mains, and then there is the occaisional hot transformer putting out more than the standard 100+/- rail voltage. Average on all my conversions so far is in the 480-490 range with quite a few over 500, with one even topping out at 525.
SNR is now in 110db range freq response is now down only .(point)13db ar 10 hertz, quite an improvement over the stock models....

Thanks laatsch55 for your insightful knowledge for the PL 700B. It seems extremely capable of delivering the power I am looking for and at a price point that is obtainable.
I really like the 505 Watts I Would use repeatably but at the high wattage that I myself like to listen to. I need something more matched to my SX-D7000 in way of Total Harmonic Distortion. Crystal Clean at high volume is my goal. I thank you for your insight.

The global negative feedback circuit of the Pioneers is what's responsible for the low THD & N numbers. Keep in mind that is also where the low damping factors come from also.....In my opinion if you are judging what a piece of gear will sound like from the THD and N figures alone you are doing youself a disservice, but to each his own..
