Pioneer or Teac Receivers - help and opinion

Hello my dears friends,

Recent I have an opportunity to buy one of these three receivers but unfortunately I never so one live and don't know which one to buy.

Pioneer sx-737 - 250eur
Pioneer sx-838 - 370eur
Teac AG6500 - 400eur

Can anybody give an option of which one it worth, I also don't want to spend a lot of money because I also need to buy some speakers. I'm pointing to the 737 because of the price but perhaps if I invest a little more I get better quality or the difference isn't so big?

Either Pioneer would be my choice, depending on your room size. I’ve got a vintage SX-780 that serves me well. Those Pioneers were well built, and they sold a ton of them in their day. Also, there’s a Pioneer section here on this forum, chock full of good info on the vintage units.

Not familiar with that specific Teac model, but they were more well known for their tape decks.

I agree about the Pioneers. I have an 838 and it is a great receiver. I don’t own a 737, but have heard good things about them too. If money is a consideration, get the 737 and use the difference for speakers...

That Teac is an interesting looking beast. Yes, at the time it was made, Teac mostly sold tape decks and related products in the US, but they had a wider product range in other parts of the world. Don't discount it if neither of the Pioneers works out.

I'd go Pioneer too. I admit what first sold me on Pioneer was their Beautiful reciever faceplates of that time. IMO a work of art. I have heard the 737 and would say it performs every bit as good as it looks.

It might even best some of their more powerful and expensive models in terms of sound quality and overall performance when kept out of clipping, Which is why it is my favorite vintage reciever.
 
Well, if money is no consideration and if you are into the not-run of the mill gear, I'd go for the Teac - Never seen one of those before, Looks pretty cool and appears to accept 3 pairs of speakers and has pre-amp jacks. Bet it weighs a ton too

The room where I'll build my "lounge" it's about 25 square meters. Im very much for the 737... It's 35wpc but also my speakers are 100w din 180w peak so I think it's fine for the other 2 receivers that are 50wpc perhaps I need more power speakers. And I want quality and performance on the sound not just power. And also i want to try not spend to much money :)

If its to please your ears the 838 is a winner. The SX-x2x and x3x are some of the best sounding receivers I have heard. Make sure you factor in having each of those restored. The SX's are quite a bit of work. Know zero about the TEAC, may be an easy restore. End game if $$$ is an issue the TEAC could be cheaper to restore. IE in the end have less money in it than the 838 due to restoration costs.
