just picked it up. its nice and clean, although not 100% mint. the level slider is broken, looks like an ea y fix. appears to be stuck on the lowest volume setting, as I can hear it playing the cD very faintly. good news is the broken slider wa worth knocking 50 bux off the price! will post up some internal pictures when I take it apart to fix it for anyone interested.

IMO a great CD player. Crack the case and you find it packed with boards and electronics. Possibly some over building seeing that CD technology was new to the public consumer back when. Some say that newer players have better DAC's and I am not here to argue that point. I just feel that the P-D70 can hold its own and sounds damn fine to me! The fact that is was manufactured in 84' yet plays CD-R's is amazing.
The shear weight, looks and performance of the 70 is great. I like em' so much I got two!

Does the wired remote use a plug in connector on this model?

If it does it would be a pretty simple DIY project to build a infared remote receiver to decode a standard sony remote control to activate the controls on this CD or any wired type remote. My guess would be around $20 in parts + the remote and it would be the size of a cig pack or smaller. Needed would be a matching connector (this might be the hardest component to come up with) for the remote access socket on this player and a service manual showing the pin out connections of the connector.

The magic component is a programmable micro controller chip called a picaxe avalible from an educational firm in England. It comes in several device choice depending on number of I/O pins needed. The development programming software runs on a PC and is free. It is programmed in the basic language and they have build in infared receiver and transmitter subroutines in their features. There are a few domestic sellers of these chips on E-bay and just a few US and Canadian distrubutors.

I found one of these( Pioneer P-D70 ) . It is in nice physical shape but it does not play disc 's All the lights work though . It has the silver face too . Is it worth anything in this condition .
 
The thread is a bit old. If you start a new one, it'll probably generate more response. By the way, congratulations on finding a rarity-- working or not. Last one I saw on ebay that was not working went for $40 something.. it had 4 bids.
 
I've never had any luck fixing a player that will no longer read a CD, correction, I fixed quite a few by replacing the whole laser assembly from donor units, Dave. :tears:
