Pioneer Parts

Hello,

I'm new to the site but not new to Pioneer Audio. I've been working on consumer audio equipment since the early 80's. My favorite Pioneer SX-3900 is on the fritz and I need help with obtaining parts for this component.

The power supply has a blown temperature fuse and I can't seem to find a replacement, anywhere. The Pioneer part is AEX-001. I'll take that or the complete rectifier assy AWR-211.

Also, this is the first time I've seen this fuse blow and would like to find out if anyone else has seen this fuse blow and if they know the cause of the failure ( I can dig into it and find the problem but if someone else has seen this and let me know then it would save me a lot of time). I don't want to spend this time replacing this part only to have it go out again since it's so hard to find.

There are plenty of them on Amazon and fleabay,, Newark also carries them. Thermal fuse, 109 deg C, 15 A, 250 V. ~$2 each or less for 5 to 10+ units. Google search for NTE8108 or NEC SF109X

Correct the underlying problem first. Then put in a new thermal fuse. A temporary short in it's place is acceptable ONLY during troubleshooting.

Either the surge relay isn't operating to remove the resistor (big square 20 watter) from the primary circuit, or the contacts on the relay are burned.

If it blows instantly, it means there are shorted output transistors shunting away a HUGE amount of power.

Dim bulb tester is first. Look it up, build one - using a 100 to 150 watt incandescent bulb.

Thanks for the info. The markings on the old fuse are missing.

I was going to check that relay. It seems like a good a place as any to start. But to be safe, I was going to disconnect the power supply from the rest of the unit and check it first. Once that is working, check the outputs, then the rest of the unit for other problems.
