Pioneer PAX 30C drivers

Checking on the local Good Will today and though I would walk through the furniture section. Found these large cabinets with no markings. Looked at the selector knob on the back and saw Pioneer. Someone had taken the back off one cab. I looked inside and saw a single 12 inch driver heavy metal frame. Ten bucks later I had them in the rig headed home.

Took the back off and found out they were Pioneer PAX 30c two way drivers. Surrounds are pretty shot but I hooked them up to a Marantz 2235b that I had just deoxed and set the DC offset. Tried some Dire Straights and Nora Jones and was pretty impressed on how these guys sounded. I searched AK and found some information. Look to be late 60's - early 70's vintage.

The surrounds look inverted. I am sure finding correct ones will be a task so I'll start phoning the usual suppliers...

Whoever made those speakers made mine. Did you ever fix your surrounds? I know who can do it. Do your wire connectors look like these? I riubbed some Howards on my grills today.

These sound very good. I looked all over for surrounds for the PAX 30C's and finally found some pleated JBL surrounds. I haven't had time to get it done but now that Fall is here I will get them on the bench. I will post picks of the repair to include cap replacement and cabinet re-finish.

What kind of speaker wire connectors do your cabinets have? I'm still trying to figure out the year they were made. Your drivers say Pioneer Electronic Corp and my say Fukuin Electric. The name change happened in 1961. I sent my drivers off to a vintage expert to let him refurb my drivers.
