Pioneer PL-15D-II

Hi, a relative just gave me this turntable because I want to set up a music room, I've been looking for a nice one like a pioneer PL-630 or a Kenwood 5100 but the Pioneer PL-15D-II was free.
cosmetically this TT looks new, the dust cover has NOT even a scratch.
I ordered a new belt as the one it has turned to a gummy mess, other than that it's in excellent condition.
what I would like to know is how would this compare to one of the TT's I mentioned above
Is this even a good TT?

The Pioneer PL-15DII was a very woody sturdy belt drive from the early seventies - 1972 ish.

The Pioneer PL-630 wass a direct drive from the late seventies 1979 ish.

They are quite different in many areas, both very good. :music:
 
as far as sound quality, should I keep looking or is the PL-15D-II going to be as good as the PL-630 sound wise.
right now I'm using a rubber band that is a real close size to the belt and to my ears the speed is not stable and not consistent, understanding that it's a rubber-band that I'm using
sorry if this seems to be a dumb question, but I've never had a quality TT before so I'm not sure what to expect

The Pioneer PL-630 was the top of the line direct drive at one time. :thumbsup:

It will out perform technically though maybe not aesthetically than the Pioneer PL-15D II belt drive.

It will also depend on what cartridge you'll be using. I would keep and use the PL-15D and if/when you decide to add another turntable. If you're a true audiophile, you will have more than one turntable. I have three in rotation and two boxed up and ready to sell. Turntables are like Lays Potato Chips... You cannot have just one.
